Latinos are coming up with ingenious ways to cook during Texas’ power outages
As bitter cold temperatures continue to sweep across the country, Texas is still battling statewide power outages. As of Wednesday morning, an estimated 2.7 million households were still powerless, a Grid operator reported on Twitter. Despite 600,000 homes getting power restored on Tuesday night, many families are still waiting for their electricity to come back. However, this hasn’t stopped ingenious Latinos from finding innovative ways to enjoy some of their savory meals.
With most stoves requiring electrical power to turn on, Latinos in Texas are using common household tools for cooking up a meal. TikTok user @thaliaahr shared a short clip on the video platform showing a family member using a power drill to work a blender. We can agree, along with 285.9 thousand other people who hearted this video, that using a cordless drill to work a blended is quite brilliant.
No gas stove, no problem! Another TikTok user, @oswaldoaleja, showed how his family opted for a propane torch to mimic a stove’s flames to cook a carne asada.
Despite not having a functioning stove, this TikTok user proved you can still have beautifully charred meat with the power of a torch, as shown in his recent video. The juicy carne asada topped with thick chunks of onions, was accompanied with a handful of delicious shrimp and limes on the side.
While cooking off-grid may seem challenging to many, there are ways to whip up a nice meal during prolonged power outages. Just ask us Latinos! After all, we devise ingenious ways of solving such problems.
