Fox News’ Headline ‘3 Mexican Countries’ Goes Viral

On Sunday, March 31, Fox & Friends reported that President Donald Trump ordered the State Department to cut aid to Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador. According to the Fox News morning show, the former businessman wanted to reduce aid as a retaliation for the recent caravans and in attempt to halt migration efforts.

However, the network mislabeled these three Central American countries in a graphic, referring to them as “3 Mexican Countries,” sparking hundreds of tweets and illustrations mocking the mistake. Fox News apologized for the incident, but the damage had already been done.

“We want to clarify and correct something that happened earlier in the show,” the network said on-air. “We had an inaccurate graphic on screen while talking about this very story … We just want to be clear, the funding is being cut off to the three Central American countries. We apologize for the error. It never should have happened.”

Of course, Twitter had a field day with this ignorant mistake, even getting the president of El Salvador to join in on the fun. President Nayib Bukele shared a picture of himself with Presidente de México Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

If this incident isn’t enough for you, there’s also a Twitter dedicated to, “awkward images, clumsy captions, flawed headlines, & memorable moments as seen on the Fox networks & ‘Fox presidency.'”

De nada!
