Adria by thalia haircare products on sink

We Tried Thalia’s New Haircare Line and Here’s Why We Love It

Let’s face it: Finding haircare products that actually work is challenging. From the plethora of shampoo and conditioners on the shelves to all the hair-loving ingredients to choose from, it can easily get overwhelming when trying to shop for your mane. Not to mention, the search becomes even more complicated when trying to find products that work for all hair types.

You see Latinas, unlike the media’s portrayal, have a vast array of hair types — straight, wavy, curly, fine, coarse, and frizzy. So, when I found out Thalia had created a haircare line with all hair types in mind, I was intrigued to see if the products lived up to its claim.

The singer-turned-beauty entrepreneur recently launched Adria By Thalia, a seven-piece collection with all of the hair styling essentials you need in your beauty arsenal, including shampoo and conditioner. What makes these products stand out from rest in the market is the exclusive CAPPA 5 Complex, a blend of natural goodies designed to “to protect, fortify, repair, and strengthen all hair types including color-treated hair.”

Paying homage to her Latin roots, each ingredient — coconut, agave, passion fruit, peony, and avocado extracts — is sourced from Central America, Brazil, and, of course, Thalia’s native country of Mexico. It’s also important to note that all her products are color free and sulfate free — an aggressive detergent that produces bubbles and through long-term use has health effects.

But before continuing my review, it’s important to point out that my hair is frizzy, thin, prone to breakage, and oily (yes, the kind that you can fry a platano maduro on). To test out the products, I also enlisted the help of our Social Media Editor, Karen Hernandez, who describes her hair type as “thin and fine.”

The first two products on the list were the Adria by Thalia shampoo and the nourishing conditioner. Like all the products in this collection, these bad boys came in a chic ivory packaging with rose gold accents that perfectly fit my bathroom’s neutral aesthetic (if you ask me, that’s already a win!).

In terms of actual product, the first thing I noticed was the lather. While most sulfate-free shampoos don’t give me that satisfying suds I crave, this shampoo did a great job of subtly foaming up for a deep clean. I applied the product, as I would any shampoo, massaging in for one minute and then rinsing out. After washing off the shampoo, my hair already felt incredibly clean without stripping it of its moisture.

The next step was the conditioner. Because I have extremely tangled hair, a great conditioner for me is one that is able to remove all my knots and leave my strands feeling silky. To my surprise, this product lived up to my expectation and more. Not only did this conditioner remove all the matted sections immediately upon use, but once my hair started drying, como por arte de magia my split ends were nonexistent.

Of course, I wasn’t the only one who noticed this kind of brujeria. Karen, who took a trip down to memory lane with the product’s fragrance, also noticed a huge difference with her frayed ends.

“This shampoo and conditioner are heaven sent. When I got out of the shower and blow dried my hair, it literally looked like I had no split ends. I was in disbelief, ” she said. “Their scent also reminded me of a lotion I use to use in Perú when I was younger, which made the experience a lot more pleasurable.”

My hair care routine is pretty simple, so the next product I decided to test next was the all-in-one spray. According to the product description, this spray acts like a leave-in treatment that controls frizz, detangles, protects, and instantly repairs your locks. Once my hair was 80 percent dry, I spritzed this treatment all over — even to my root — and dispersed it with my hands. I was immediately won over by its smoothing abilities and how well it tamed frizz.

Going into this trial, I was doubtful that I’d get the same results with Adria by Thalia’s dry shampoo as I do with Dove Beauty Refresh + Care Volume & Fullness Dry Shampoo (I’m a creature of habit!). So on my day two hair, I sprayed the oil absorber and right away noticed a considerable difference in volume.

While my hair tends to be flat and greasy, this dry shampoo thickened my fine, thin texture. And, as for shine, the dry shampoo made my normally greasy strands, look as if I’d just washed it and kept the oil at bay all day long.

Karen, who also has extremely oil hair, had nothing but high praises for the product. “Wow! This was honestly a life saver. I have extremely thin and fine hair, so I have to wash it every other day or I look like a vaga,” she said. “This dry shampoo smells so good, I almost wanted to eat it. It soaked up all my oils and made my hair look like I had just washed it. Best of all, there was no white residue.”

Final verdict: I was blown away by how well these products worked considering their price point. For under $10 a pop, Adria by Thalia offers great treatment for all your hair concerns. I’ll be honest: Even if the collection was available for purchase at a higher price point, it would still totally be worth the splurge thanks to its the results.

Of course, if I had to choose one product from the entire collection that earned our seal of approval, it would hands down be the Adria by Thalia Conditioner. Not only did it help make my hair easy to comb through, but it also transformed those pesky broken ends. What’s not to love?!
