Mar de Lua

Colombian designer Carolina Diazgranado brings a family-inclusive swimwear line

Latin American designers have become the creme de la creme of the swimwear industry and Carolina Diazgranado is leaving her footprint with unique designs, cuts, and prints. Mar de Lua is a Colombian-made brand dedicated to the entire family. You can find swimsuits for men, women, girls, and boys. But most importantly, you can notice the uniqueness in her print designs.

Her recent SS21 collection was presented during Miami Swim Week 2021 along with the sponsorship of ProColombia, a company in charge of promoting non-traditional exports. The Barranquilla-born designer started her atelier while holding a job in social communications. “I started my swimwear workshop at home. I started having more clients and then I found a way to improve the craftsmanship.”

Diazgranado focuses on every aspect of design including print creation. “Every pattern from my collection is from my own creation. This time around I wanted to create bohemian designs with flowers. I believe this is the time to blossom and become what we want to be. We are also trying to work with sustainable fabrics and we use biodegradable ink on recycled PET fabrics.”

Aside from introducing a more sustainable practice in her designs, the entrepreneur also made sure to include UV50 into her bathing suits. Mar de Lua features neon colors such as hot pink, orange, and purple, including a palette of softer hues such as lilac and beige. “The neon color in our collection is a pop to a new opportunity of life after all we’ve been through. It’s a shiny and bright color as well as our forever summer days that always are part of our inspiration,” claimed the designer.

Mar de Lua currently exports to more than 10 countries and it was the first time presenting in Miami Swim Week. What Diazgranado wants to translate through her collection is an air of positivism, “This is fully inspired by the blossom that’s why our prints are mostly flowers and trendy animal prints.”
