Mariah Carey completes her memoir filled with ‘triumphs and traumas’

It’s been 30 years since Mariah Carey released her self-titled debut album. Since then, the mother-of-two has sold over 200 million records worldwide and has topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in four decades thanks to her Christmas hit ‘All I Want For Christmas.’ Despite being in the limelight for three decades, Carey is opening up like never before in her much-anticipated memoirs.

The powerhouse singer, who insists it took her ‘a lifetime’ to get the courage and clarity to write the story, revealed to fans on Instagram that her book is done and is now in the hands of publishers. “I want to tell the story of the moments – the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams, that contributed to the person I am today,” she wrote.

Mariah continued: “Though there have been countless stories about me throughout my career and very public personal life, it’s been impossible to communicate the complexities and depths of my experience in any single magazine article or a ten-minute television interview.”

While the singer has grazed the covers of numerous magazines and been interviewed countless times, she feels as though her “words were filtered through someone else’s lens, largely satisfying someone else’s assignment to define me.”

The 50-year-old revealed the book is filled with chronicles about her childhood, her career, and other incredibly juicy details of her songs. “I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice,” she said, adding, “I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.”

The Grammy-winning artist concluded the note letting fans know she hoped they would be “moved to a new understanding, not only about me, but also about the resilience of the human spirit.”

On Thursday, the singer surprised fans with the title of her memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey, which is expected to hit bookshelves on September 29. You can pre-order her highly-anticipated book here.
