Holiday season brings a cornucopia of hope and magic filled with gingerbread aroma and romantic-filled movies that will lessen your negative vibes from early 2020. Dash & Lily is the new romantic-comedy series hitting the Netflix platform on November 10, based on the YA book, Dash & Lily’s Book Of Dares that will bring the magic of the season. The series is not your traditional romantic story followed by a series of unfortunate events for the characters. Instead, the series breaks the stereotypes portrayed by traditional movies and brings a more “realistic and relatable” story to a young audience.

Keana Marie stars in this rom-com as Sofia, the cultured ex-girlfriend of Dash who seems to be an essential character for the development of this romance. Though most ex-girlfriends’ characters portray an evil personality, Sofia is quite charming and promises to lure viewers into the show. “It’s a feel-good show. Sofia is very cultured and has traveled all around the world,” mentioned the Brazilian actress in an exclusive interview with Latina Watch. What makes her character more credible is that Keana actually speaks Spanish, French, English, and Portuguese fluently. “I think Sofia is very likable. I had fun having freedom in creating her. Sofia is a version of myself and I pulled inspirations from my friends I grew up with. I feel like I have a lot of culture like her. It was easier to mold Sofia through the book,” adds the 25-year-old actress. Sofia is not your typical heartbreaker and attention-seeker character. Instead, she is a true friend that listens to Dash and encourages him to embrace his Christmas spirit. “I always try to keep it cool with my exes,” quips Keana.

Her creative career began early when she was eight years old and started acting in commercials and taking acting classes for TV and film. Keana later joined Academy of Arts and Minds in Coconut Grove and moved to Los Angeles upon graduation to pursue her dreams.

With a curiosity in filmmaking and cinematography, Keana is set to make it big in Hollywood but it all starts by changing the narrative in stereotypical stories. Dash and Lily is one of those hopeful series that brings a message to those looking for love during uncertain times. “It’s pretty unheard of to hear people falling in love from a notebook. That adds another layer of magic and a game quality. There is this scavenger hunt and they are trying to know each other in this journey and see when they will meet in person,” says Keana. Through each episode, the characters will dismantle their fears and break their own shells, while accepting themselves. “It’s kinda like they are falling in love with themselves. It’s really a self-discovery through their love story. It’s about self-love,” adds the actress who is confident the series will add a hint of positivism to this sour year.

Every scene will reminisce a pre-pandemic era where love and holiday was all the hype. Dash and Lily will traverse New York City’s staples like Union Square Holiday Market and The Morgan Library and Museum. “The Morgan Library is so beautiful and basically liquid gold.” Aside from debuting as the cool ex-girlfriend, Keana has several projects in the works where she collaborates with other creatives to recreate iconic films. She is a producer and rising screenwriter that wants to elevate real-world experiences on screen. Her Netflix debut will not only give you hope in love but also an inspiring wardrobe to copy. Hopefully, it will also bring holiday magic to your home.
