This women-owned hair company gave me the confidence I needed to embrace my thin hair
Unlike most people who have plenty of hair to rock updos, I often struggle to put my thin hair in a bun. According a study done by Lam Institute for Hair Restoration, hair loss is a common entity in the Hispanic community — and my whole familia is proof of that. I have been suffering from hair loss for years. I’m assuming it all started when my mom would pull my hair so far back, while giving me pigtails, that you could basically see my skull. Of course, I’m not blaming anyone… maybe a little, mom!
Fortunately, I was able to find a way to get more self confidence without having to get hair implants —because let’s face it, who has $15,000 to spare in this economy? (If you do, then please hit me up)
I found Insert Name Here through a post that Kathleen Lights shared on her Instagram with her two million followers. Not only are they a women-owned company, but they are also transparent in their desire to expand their diversity within the company. We spoke to co-owner Jordynn Wynn regarding her motivation behind the company and their plan to becoming a diverse workforce. Jordynn explained that “friendship, love and self expression” were the reason behind the brand since its inception. Insert Name Here’s efforts to bringing a more diverse team started back in June.
“Some of our efforts thus far have included a monthly focus featuring diverse creators, expanding our outreach efforts, and ensuring that at least 50% of all of our gifting goes to individuals of color. We highlight diverse creators whenever we can, whether it be through an Instagram post or a company email and have recently partnered with a few Black owned small businesses for giveaways and promotions,” Jordynn told LatinaWatch, adding, “Importantly, we’ve expanded our company discourse across departments around topics of diversity and inclusion. While our concrete program development is the most significant part of our efforts, open and continuous conversation is also hugely important”
Obviously, I was sold! I started by buying the Brit ponytail and not to copy Maluma, but Brit, Me Enamoré de tí. I would say that my hair in a ponytail is probably around 20 cm, but I’m only writing in centimeters to make myself feel better. That’s about 8 inches. The Brit ponytail is 26 inches and the difference is amazing. Now I can’t wear my hair up without using one of their ponytails.
Since I loved it so much, I also ended up buying the Shayla, Molly, and Sammy, which is a bun to help me with my rat’s nest. Eventually, I invested in their extensions, which are 18-inches of human hair that can be styled with heat. They look so real that I cannot even tell you how many people have told me, “omg Karen your hair grew so fast.” I’m not gonna lie, sometimes I admit they’re extensions, other times I say thank you because una mentirita isn’t going to kill anyone.
In case you’re not sure what color to get, you can DM them on Instagram to get one of their Color Experts to determine which shade is best for you! I’m now waiting for the Kacey, another Brit in a lighter color to change it up and Miya to come in. I’m not saying es una obsesión, but I’m also not denying it. We were able to get all of our subscribers 20% off for any purchase with code “LATINAWATCH20”. But hurry, this offer only lasts until 8/13, so make sure you get all your purchases in!
Thank you Jordynn and Sharon I’m giving me the confidence I needed!
