Face masks help slow the spread of the coronavirus. By how much, you ask? Well, a study conducted by the University of California Davis Children’s Hospital has found that covering your nose and mouth reduces your risk of catching Covid-19 by 65 percent. While it was previously believed that wearing a mask would only prevent a sick person from transmitting the virus, it also significantly decreases the chance of infection for mask wearers.
“Everyone should wear a mask,” Dr Dean Blumberg, chief of paediatric infectious diseases at UC Davis Children’s Hospital, said, adding, “People who say, ‘I don’t believe masks work,’ are ignoring scientific evidence. It’s not a belief system. It’s like saying, ‘I don’t believe in gravity.’”
