Veteran Raises Over 8 Million Via GoFundMe After Trump Fails to Secure Funds for His Wall
With President Donald Trump’s two-year mark in the White House only a month away, the discussion about building a wall at the U.S.-Mexican border continues. After threatening to allow a government shutdown to happen, he eventually backed off when he didn’t secure $5 billion for the infamous wall.
But the 45th president’s dream isn’t dead yet, thanks to Brian Kolfage. The Air Force veteran has become an overnight sensation with his GoFundMe campaign, dedicated to raising the funds needed to start the controversial project.
Do you think our Gofundme campaign changed @realDonaldTrump mind on the wall and government shutdown? I believe it did…. We need to keep the pressure on and keep showing America what we want! DONATE NOW! #GoFundTheWall https://t.co/h4K1VZWToC

Launched on Sunday, December 16, the campaigned titled, We The People Will Fund The Wall, has raised more than $8 million, with contributions from over 100,000 donators. The highest donation thus far has been $50,000 from an anonymous person. Edgar Weis and JZ Knight follow, donating $10,015 and $10,000 respectively.

The triple amputee veteran was candid about his drive to reach the $1 billion goal, which is meant to be given directly to the Trump administration. “Too many Americans have been murdered by illegal aliens,” Kolfage wrote. “And too many illegals are taking advantage of the United States taxpayers with no means of ever contributing to our society.”
The 37-year-old was involved in a 2004 insurgent attack in Iraq, where he lost both legs and his right arm. He elaborated by sharing that his grandparents immigrated to the U.S. legally. This personal anecdote prompted him to write, “They did it the correct way and it’s time we uphold our laws and get this wall built!”
The Purple Heart recipient continued by rallying fellow conservatives to stand strong against Democrats, who will “stall this project by any means possible and play political games to ensure President Trump doesn’t get his victor.”
It’s no surprise that the GoFundMe campaign has sparked outraged within the Latinx community and other minority allies:

Conservatives will start a GoFundMe to raise money for a border wall, but not to raise money to house the homeless veterans that they always bring up when people speak about immigration.

The GoFundMe to build the wall reached over 5mil in 3 days but y’all couldn’t come through for Flint, Michigan? Like that’s really the type of people there are out there I can’t even be angry it just makes me so sad

It’s hilarious that the same group of people who don’t want to give more money to the government through taxes, started a GoFundMe to raise money in order to build a border wall that they were promised they wouldn’t have to pay for. #trumpshutdown
