How To Negotiate Salary Through Meditation

Oprah Winfrey stands by meditation practices as a cornerstone to her many successes throughout her personal and professional life. Alongside business leaders and trailblazing entrepreneurs like Tony Robbins, Arianna Huffington, and Marc Benioff — Winfrey has used meditation to allow abundance into her professional career. Whether it’s using prosperity affirmations, mindfulness money mantras, or sitting with yourself to clear your thoughts around finances — meditating can help you negotiate your salary better.

I use to be horrible at negotiating, especially when it came to salary conversations. As women, we’ve been conditioned to feel uncomfortable when it comes to playing hardball with salary negotiations, but it doesn’t have to be. A mind shift alone can push forth the conversation of getting precisely what you deserve in the money making department of life. Abundance is right above our hearts, that’s right — it’s in the brain. Once I began mediating, it changed my personal and professional mindset. I would mediate for at least 20 minutes a day around love, prosperity and life success. When I heard my boss was giving yearly reviews within upcoming weeks, I began to focus my mantra on salary negotiations, since I knew it was a topic I was still uneasy speaking about. I marked my calendar with our date and appointment and took ownership of my professional thoughts every morning before work.

As the day arrived, I recall sitting down with my supervisor as we reviewed my year-to-date accomplishments and areas of improvements.Thankfully, there were many highlights around my work, as she mentioned a promotion and a salary negotiation was up for discuss — I knew it was my time to shine. I spoke in a calm tone and repeated my successes to remind her of how much I valued my work at the company from which I learned in money mantras I created. I provided numbers that made it a win-win situation for my financial success while honoring the company’s growth as a Buddhist friend told me I should do. I then expressed my gratitude to her for noting my achievements and watched her light up from my comments about her. After our meeting, I walked away with a peaceful heart and an open mind as a result of my mindfulness routines. I was confident and calm, knowing I negotiated from an “I am worthy, I am abundance, and I am enough,” mindset. Therefore in my eyes, I succeeded. A week later, I received an offer letter from HR with more than I negotiated and I was beyond happy. I used my mediation tools to align me with the outcome I wanted one day at a time. With hard work, dedication, and mediation I was able to negotiate the salary of my dreams.

Here are four tips on how to negotiate salary through meditative practices. Take a different approach on how to negotiate salary, and begin to see money flow wherever you go!

Listen to guided money meditation: If you struggle with getting your mind quiet, like most, being guided through your thoughts will help you free yourself. Guided financial mediating sessions can help visualize and feel the experience you wish to create around your salary negotiation. For example, imagine your supervisor smiling and agreeing with the number you have suggested and shaking your hand. Ah, that feels and sounds good already, right?

Create Money Mantra: These will be your lifesavers to help you shift your mindset. Mantras are simple sentences you can repeat to reaffirm your beliefs. These are can personal or as told by from success money makers you look up to. I would use the following: “You are a money magnet. My income increases constantly. I can look at my finances without fear. I have the power to create success and build the wealth I desire.”

Practice the Buddhist Detachment Philosophy: We live in a time where we are all attached to something or someone via social media. The Buddhist believe success comes more when one practices non-attachment method of outcomes. It allows one to be calmer and level-headed while trusting the result to be the best for the present moment.

The attitude of gratitude: One of the most potent tools for manifesting the salary of your dreams is being grateful. If you are having a hard time expressing gratitude, you may be blocking your money from coming forth. Honoring your current salary allows your employer to see your hard work and help ease up the salary negotiation conversation.
