Kick off your Cinco de Mayo celebrations with these cocktail recipes

The remembrance of the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, has become an important part of Mexican culture across the world. Lucky for you, you can celebrate this year’s most booze-filled holiday by treating yourself and your guests to some delicious cocktails. Whether it’s a spicy variation on a classic or a refreshing cocktail, this Cinco de Mayo create some delectable drinks that are both easy to make and pleasant to sip.

Prickly Pear Margarita

  •  1.5 oz Código 1530 Rosa or Blanco Tequila
  • 1⁄2 oz Brushfire Farms Prickly Pear Syrup
  • 1 oz Lemon Juice
  • 1⁄2 oz Orange Juice
  • 1⁄4 oz Agave Syrup

Preparation:

  1. Salt rim on glass.
  2. Add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice.
  3. Shake vigorously and pour over rocks into a glass.
  4. Garnish with lime wheel. Enjoy!

Villa One Palmilla 

  • 1.5 oz Villa One Reposado
  • 0.25 oz lime juice
  • 0.75 oz grapefruit juice 
  • 0.5 oz Ancho Reyes Verde Chile Poblano Liqueur
  • 0.5 oz agave syrup
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 4 oz Soda Water

Preparation:

  1. Shake the first 6 ingredients with ice and strain into a Collins glass over new ice.
  2. Top with soda water and garnish with cayenne salt and a dehydrated lime.

Pińita

  • 2 Parts Milagro Silver
  • ½ part Pineapple juice 
  • ¼ part Agave nectar
  • 1 part Lime juice
  • Float 3 dashes of Angostura 

Preparation:

  1. Add all ingredients (except angostura) into shaker add ice and shake for 5 seconds. 
  2. Strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice and float 3 dashes of bitters.
  3. Garnish with pineapple fronds.

Espolòn Reposado Spicy Margarita

  • 45 ml Espolòn Reposado
  • 15 ml of Ancho Reyes Verde
  • 30 ml Fresh Lime Juice
  • 10 ml agave syrup (depending on sweetness)
  • Sea salt crust rim (half rim is a good option)
  • Lime peel or wedge

Preparation:

  • Shake ingredients with plenty of ice, double strain in a in a coupette.
  • Garnish with lime peel/wedge.

Blood Orange Margarita

  • 1 ½ oz. Tequila Cazadores Special Edition
  • ½ oz. Orange Curacao
  • 2 oz. Blood Orange Juice
  • 3/4 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
  • 3/4 oz. Agave Nectar
  • Manny’s Salt

Preparation:

  1. Shake all ingredients.
  2. Serve over ice with Manny’s salt (salt flavored with guajillo and pasilla chili peppers, hibiscus, sugar and lime).

Perfect Patron Margarita

  • 1.5 oz Patrón Reposado
  • 1 oz Citrónge Orange Liqueur
  • .75 oz Fresh lime juice
  • .25 oz Simple syrup, to taste
  • Lime wheel for garnish
  • Kosher salt (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Combine ingredients in the cocktail shaker and shake with ice to chill.
  2. Strain into a salt-rimmed martini or rocks glass.
  3. Garnish with a lime wheel.

Grand Margarita

  • 1 part Grand Marnier® Cordon Rouge
  • 1 part Tequila
  • .5 part Fresh Lime Juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime Garnish

Preparation:

  1. Fill a wide, shallow dish with 2-3 mm of fine salt.
  2. Cut a lime in half at the width and rub around half of the rim of a margarita glass.
  3. Cut a thin, crosswise slice from one of the lime halves for garnish.
  4. Holding glass upside down, dip wet half delicately into the salt.
  5. Shake Grand Marnier, tequila and lime juice with ice in a cocktail shaker.
  6. Strain into glass and apply lime garnish to the rim.

Sunrise in Oaxaca

Preparation:

  1. Add Dos Hombres and orange juice with ice into a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour into Collins glass.
  4. Slowly pour in grenadine.
  5. Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.
  6. Enjoy the sunrise!

St. George Spice Pear Margarita 

  • 1 1/2 oz Reposado Tequila
  • 1 oz St. George Spiced Pear Liqueur
  • 1/2 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1/4 oz Simple Syrup

Preparation:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a tin with ice, then shake and strain over fresh ice into a glass half-rimmed with salted cinnamon sugar.
  2. Garnish with lime and/or a pear slice.

Los Arango La Reina

  • 1⁄2 oz. Los Arango Blanco Tequila
  • 4 Dashes Pink Peppercorn Tincture
  • 1⁄4 oz. Sweet Vermouth
  • 2 Drops Rose Water
  • 3⁄4 oz. Dry Rosé

Preparation:

  1. Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker, add ice and shake well.
  2. Rim a Nick n Nora glass with cracked pink/black peppercorn salt.
  3. Hawthorne and fine strain the cocktail into your prepped glass.
  4. Garnish with a grapefruit twist.
  5. Garnish with a grapefruit twist and salt cracked pink and peppercorn rim.

PARTY Sunrise

  • Vera Wang PARTY
  • 1 oz tequila blanco
  • 1.5 oz mango juice
  • 0.5 oz rosemary syrup

Preparation:

  1. In a cute flute, stir together tequila, juice and syrup.
  2. Top with chilled prosecco.
  3. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary. 

Hornitos Don Francisco Margarita

  • 2 Parts Hornitos Plata or Reposado Tequila
  • 1 Part Orange Juice
  • ½ Part Lime Juice
  • ¾ Part Honey Syrup
  • Orange Wheel
  • Edible Marigold
  • Salt & Chili Powder Rim

Preparation:

  1. Put equal parts salt and chili powder on a plate.
  2. Use an orange or lime wedge to wet the rim of the glass, and gently roll it into the salt/chili powder.
  3. Combine cocktail ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice.
  4. Shake and strain into your rimmed rocks glass over fresh ice.

Spicy Michelada

  • 1 can of Tecate
  • 10 shakes pH Smoldered Bitters
  • 5 oz Knudsen’s Very Veggie Juice, Spicy!
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 2 drops ghost pepper sauce

Preparation:

  1. Rim glass with lime salt.
  2. Mix all ingredients together (except beer).
  3.  Pour mix into pint glass. Top with Tecate.
  4. Stir and garnish with lime.

Daisy Bates Margarita

  • 2 oz silver tequila
  • 1 oz pH Pineapple Rosemary Shrub
  • ¾ oz pH Herbalicious Syrup
  • 1oz fresh lime juice

Preparation:

  1. Shake or stir
  2. Strain into a glass over ice, rimmed with rosemary salt
  3. Enjoy!

Cazadores Avocado Margarita

  • 1 ½ oz. Tequila Cazadores Blanco
  • 1 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1 oz. Agave Syrup
  • 1 Quarter of Avocado
  • 1 Sprig of Cilantro
  • 1 Slice of Roasted Jalapeño

Preparation:

  1. Muddle avocado, cilantro and jalapeño in a  mixing glass.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients with ice, then shake and serve over the rocks.

Prickly Pear & Agave Margarita

  • 1 1/2 parts Tequila Cazadores Añejo
  • ¼ oz. St. Germain
  • 1 oz. lime juice
  • 3/4 oz. agave nectar
  • 1 oz. Fresh Prickly Pear Puree
  • Manny’s Salt Rim

Preparation:

  1. In a mixing glass, add all the ingredients with ice, shake and serve on the rocks (salt rim optional).
  2. Garnish with a lime wedge.

1800 Cristalino Cadillac Margarita

  • 1 ¾ oz. 1800 Cristalino
  • ½ oz. fresh lime juice
  • ½ oz. agave syrup
  • ½ oz. Agavero Orange
  • Orange wheel, for garnish
  • Coarse rock salt, for garnish 

Preparation:

  1. Line the side of a rocks glass with fresh lime juice and coat in coarse rock salt.
  2. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice.
  3. Shake vigorously to chill.
  4. Strain into rocks glass over fresh ice.
  5. Garnish with an orange slice.
