The Puerto Rican actor is joining the ranks of Heath Ledger, Jared Leto, and Cameron Monaghan, who have all taken on the role of the infamous villain. While several actors brought the character to life on the big screen, Phoenix admits, that unlike regular films, comics allow actors to freely bring a different tone to these types of roles.
“I think that genre, comic books, kind of lends itself to having different people play the same character and interpret it in a different way. It’s kind of built into the source material in some ways. I think it’s cool when people do that,” Phoenix told Collider.
Mark your calendars because Joker will hit theaters on October 4th, 2019.
