Through glitter ensembles and multiple hours of rehearsing, actress Noemí González is living her dream and embracing her Mexican roots in her role in the new Netflix show, Selena: The Series. The 32-year-old Mexican actress had to learn how to play the drums before performing. “Suzette plays right-handed although she’s left-handed. So that was another layer I experienced learning the drums, which is difficult and challenging,” mentions Noemí also admitting it was very challenging. But one of the things you will notice through the series is the tight-knit relationship Selena and Suzette experienced. Through bonding on set and sharing their stories, Christian and Noemí were able to experience a real sisterhood bond. “The family dynamic for Suzette and Selena was a crown-adjusting-crown experience and that there is room for everybody,” adds the actress. Though Noemí grew up with brothers, she never had that sister bond to relate to. Both, Christian and Noemí explored the meaning of bond and support, and understood what it meant to actually have a female insight. “There’s no need for any competition, no need for any angst because it is true sisterhood when you have those vibes.”

Fans will be able to delight in iconic songs such as Como La Flor and No Me Queda Mas while swooning over the bedazzled stage outfits. It is a virtual experience that will transport you to an era where these female artists were breaking barriers in a male-dominated industry. “Suzette had no idea she was pioneering as a female drummer and what that meant. It was very parallel to me,” shares Noemí.

Aside from trailblazing a new era of Tejano music, Selena left an impact on millions of people, especially Noemí. This role taught her “how to be a light when the going gets rough. Selena always did that for me growing up as a little girl, watching her life story and then watching her legacy when you think about the barriers that she broke through and how she left her mark – it’s just amazing!”

Selena: The Series premieres on December 4 on Netflix.
