Diane Guerrero, Dave Bautista, Laverne Cox, and Smirnoff are urging you to go vote
It is probably clear to a lot of people how important it is to ejecer tu derecho to vote. Everyone across the United States has banded together to promote and advocate for just how important it is to get your vote on. We’ve been hearing about celebs like Paul Rudd and Mariska Hargitay going out to polling sites and handing out cookies to those making the line and also seeing how celebs like America Ferrera and Eva Longoria have been making their voices heard through social media. Another way celebs are advocating for voting? A good ol’ commercial — just like Smirnoff’s Don’t Drink and Debate commercial featuring LGBTQIA+ advocate Laverne Cox, former wrestler and actor Dave Bautista, actor and activist Diane Guerrero and professional U.S.A. soccer champion and activist Megan Rapinoe.
The Don’t Drink & Debate ad, which first aired during the TIME100 broadcast on the ABC network and then again during the vice presidential and presidential debates held in October, depicts this exceptionally diverse cast of individuals encouraging Americans 21+ to stay informed, drink responsibly, and also debate responsibly (especially nowadays), before heading to the polls and exercising their right to vote during the 2020 Election.
Initially, the campaign was set to celebrate spending time outdoors with family and friends, but Smirnoff decided to pivot as they felt that there was another story that needed to be told instead. Upon cementing the new story, one Smirnoff felt was more relevant to what was going on not only in the United States, but in the world. The result? A reimagined campaign that sought to provide viewers with some levity and inspire new ways to help them virtually connect. Connect how, you ask? Smirnoff provided fun virtual backgrounds featuring their partners giving opportunities to fans to engage with talent partners through unique online experiences tailored to them.
