4 Latina Artists You Have to Keep Up With in 2019

1. Dani Leigh

If you haven’t already heard the words “my lil bebe” blasting somewhere nearby, you might be missing out! This Miami-born beauty has been making a splash in the music industry more than ever recently with her latest hit “Lil Bebe.”  While she’s emerged in more recent months, this Dominicana has been in the game for a little while. She has not only directed a video for her late mentor Prince, but she’s also played lead dancer in several music videos for musicians like Daddy Yankee and Nelly. Now at only 24-years-old, she is taking over the music industry by storm with the help of her growing fanbase dubbed “DaniLions.” If you don’t already have her in your songlist you should. As DaniLeigh says, it might just change your whole life.

2. Odalys

If you could define her in three words, it would be: pretty girl swag! Whether or not you’re into the DJ game, you are bound to have seen or heard of this young creative. Starting her career in the modeling industry at just 15, Odalys Pena has always found a way to share her unique character and energy. In an interview with Vogue, she mentioned “I’m a really big fan of clothing that is totally original and really creative.” This talented Dominicana also expresses herself through the turntables and has worked with many artists such as The Weeknd and Lil Yachty. Since then, her incredible energy has been infectious throughout the music industry. In fact, just a few weeks ago, the Harlem native rang in the new year alongside the one and only Snoop Dogg at Terminal Five. If that’s not a sign that 2019 is going to be great, then we don’t know what is!

3.  Melii

You might remember her from her remix of “Bodak Yellow” that went viral back in 2017. Melii, another Harlem native, has been crushing the music industry these days. Shortly after gaining a large following from her remix, this talented musician signed with Interscope Records and has since been creating bops that are impossible not to sing along with! “Icey” and “Sh*t Talk” are some of her many raw, and astounding hits that have put her on the map. Not only is she a Harlem baddie who isn’t afraid to speak her mind, she can also do so in different languages. This Dominican-French-Cubana includes her bilingual upbringing many of her songs, and even sings in spanglish in another hit titled “La Envidia Mata.”

4. 070 Shake

If you’ve ever listened to the latest albums by Kanye or Pusha T, you may have recognized a very distinctive voice in a few of their songs.  Danielle Balbuena, also known as 070 Shake or Yellow Girl, has been erupting the music scene more than ever lately. In 2018 alone, she was featured in not one, but two of Kanye’s new joints titled “Violent Crimes” and “Ghost Town.” Shortly before this, this Dominicana also added a sprinkle of Spanish to Pusha T’s song “Santeria.” Both singing and rapping have been her passion throughout her upbringing in North Bergen. Collaborating with other musicians in her native New Jersey, in 2016 the “070” music collective was born and so were many of their hits that eventually made headlines. Songs like “Honey” show this queer star’s collaborative and upbeat side, whereas her latest EP Glitter highlight a more genuine, raw motion. While this talented 21-year- old has already made huge strides in the music industry, one thing’s for sure– she is staying true to herself and this is the kind of breakout star the world needs more of.
