Babie Doll baby hair

New Barbie doll has baby hairs and we’re celebrating the inclusive move

Since hitting the market in 1959, Barbie dolls have been setting unrealistic body and beauty standards for kids. To demonstrate how unattainable Barbie’s body is in real life, Rehabs.com, a site connecting people with mental health treatment centers in the U.S, released some eye-opening graphics that turned the doll into a human. With a 16-inch waist with room for only half a liver and 6-inch ankles and a child’s size 3 foot that would require Barbie to walk on all four, for years the doll’s body measurement continued to set unrealistic goals for girls. However in recent months, Mattel has made major changes to their infamous doll to make it more realistic and inclusive, and their latest collection is no exception. Part of the brand’s second BMR1959 collection, is a new Black Barbie with baby hairs.

The stylish doll’s lilac and pink highlighted hair is styled in bantu knots with laid baby hairs. The brand describes the dolls from the collection as “bold, fully posable dolls capture the diverse looks found in today’s streetwear culture. From high-low fashion mixes, re-imagined ‘90s gear to juxtaposed patterns, textures, and silhouettes, this curated ensemble is all about personal expression and style.”

Fans were quick to celebrate the dolls new makeover and even praising the company for their inclusive move. “Edges on fleek,” said one follower, while another commented that there still needs more work to be done, “This one she is beautiful but don’t stop there. Continue barbie in all sizes and colors and styles.”

The Barbie, which is now available for pre-order online, also includes a houndstooth blazer with a neon two-piece and yellow oversized sneakers. To accessorize the doll’s ’90s-inspired look, the doll has bright nails and gold knocker earrings. For $29.99, shoppers also receive streetwear-inspired shoebox and a doll stand for displaying to help the Barbie looks it’s best.
