Country Singer Kacey Musgraves Pays Tribute to Selena Quintanilla During Houston Rodeo Performance
Although it’s been 23 years since Selena Quintanilla was tragically murdered, her music continues to break through barriers and cross other genres. On Monday, country singer Kacey Musgraves paid tribute the late Queen of Tejano by singing a rendition of “Como La Flor.” Dressed in a white, floral lace jumpsuit with bell bottoms (another nod to Mexican-American singer), the Grammy award-winning singer surprised fans at the Rodeo Houston show when she belted the iconic song.
The performance not only grabbed the attention of fans across the country, Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, also praised Musgraves for her amazing rendition. Quintanilla took to Instagram to thank the country singer for tribute, writing: “Awww this makes me wanna shed a tear! Takes me back. A Big Big Thank you @spaceykacey for the love at the Houston Rodeo tonite with that SELENA Y LOS DINOS Jam!”
The country singer’s tribute could not come at a better time as Quintanilla gave her final live performance 24 years ago at the Houston Astrodom. Dressed in her infamous purple sparkling jumpsuit and red lip, the Mexican-beauty performed for a record-breaking crowd of over 67,000 people on February 26th, 1995. Of course, among the songs performed was our favorite, “Como La Flor.” Take a walk down memory lane and watch the performance below!
